💰 Salary Guide — What to Expect in Canberra
Your target: $65,000–$80,000 + super (permanent) or $33–$45/hr (contract). Never go below these without discussing first. Canberra wages are generally 5–10% higher than Melbourne for equivalent roles.
| Role | Type | Market Range (Canberra) | Your Ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| Project Coordinator | Permanent | $65K–$85K | $70–75K |
| Project Coordinator | Contract | $35–$55/hr | $38–42/hr |
| Project Administrator / PMO | Permanent | $62K–$78K | $68–75K |
| Business Support Officer | Permanent | $60K–$75K | $65–72K |
| Business Analyst (Junior) | Permanent | $70K–$90K | $72–80K (1–2yr goal) |
| Admin Coordinator / EA | Permanent | $58K–$72K | $65K minimum |
💡 When an agency or employer asks for your salary expectation, say: "I'm targeting $70,000–$75,000 plus super for a permanent role, based on my Masters qualification and industry experience. I'm also open to contract at $38/hr+." This gives room to negotiate while staying firm.
📞 Agency Call Script
Use this script when calling an agency after registering online. Practice it once before calling so it sounds natural.
"Hi, my name is Sachi Jadhav. I recently registered on your website and I'm calling to follow up and introduce myself.
I have a Master of Business Information Technology from RMIT University and over three years of experience in project coordination, business support, and operational roles. I'm currently based in Melbourne but I'm relocating to Canberra immediately on securing a role — so there's no delay on start date.
I'm looking for Project Coordinator, Business Support, or Administration roles, and I'm open to both permanent and contract. For permanent roles I'm targeting around $70–75K plus super, and for contract I'm looking at $38 per hour minimum.
Are there any current roles you're working on that might suit my profile?
[Pause and listen. Take notes.]
That's great — I'd love to send through my resume. Could I get your email address? And is it okay if I follow up with you in a week or so if I haven't heard back?
Thank you so much for your time — I really appreciate it."

🎯 Interview Tips for Sachi
Lead with your Masters — In almost every answer, find a way to mention your postgraduate qualification. It signals seriousness and differentiates you immediately.
Use the STAR method — Situation, Task, Action, Result. Every behavioural question deserves a structured answer. Prepare 5–6 STAR stories from your PROBE Group and BA experience.
The 30% stat — "At Darebin City Council, I supported a system implementation that contributed to a 30% improvement in operational efficiency." Use this in almost every interview — it's powerful and quantified.
Address the relocation proactively — Don't wait to be asked. Say early: "I'm relocating to Canberra and can start within two weeks of an offer — there's no delay." This removes hiring manager anxiety.
Questions to ask the interviewer — "What does success look like in this role in the first 90 days?" / "What are the biggest challenges the team is currently facing?" / "What opportunities are there for professional development?" / "What does a typical week look like for someone in this role?"

💡 Recommendation for Sachi: Start with a short-term rental in Gungahlin or Belconnen to keep costs low while you settle in. Once you've explored the city and know where your office is, you can move closer if needed. Inner North is great for lifestyle but higher cost.
⚠️ Visa & Eligibility Reminder
Cannot apply for: APS (Australian Public Service) federal government roles. These require Australian citizenship. Do not apply — it wastes your time and makes a bad impression.
Can apply for: Private sector companies, consulting firms, universities (ANU, UC, UNSW Canberra), ACT territory government (jobs.act.gov.au), non-profit organisations, and any commercial/business entity.
What to say to agencies: "I hold a Temporary Resident visa. I'm eligible to work in Australia and cannot apply for APS federal government roles requiring citizenship, but I'm absolutely open to private sector, consulting, university, and ACT territory government roles."
